For Immediate Release
November 12, 2024 – Idabel, OK
Due to the recent impact of Hurricane Helene on Baxter International’s IV fluid manufacturing plant, hospitals across the United States, including McCurtain Memorial Hospital, are currently facing a nationwide shortage of intravenous (IV) fluids. We want to inform our community that our administration and healthcare team are fully aware of this critical issue and are taking proactive steps to manage the impact on patient care.
Since learning of this shortage, McCurtain Memorial Hospital’s leadership, including administration and our pharmacy team, have been in ongoing meetings to evaluate and respond to this situation. Our staff is working closely with our pharmacist and drug room personnel to explore every possible option to secure IV fluid supplies and to employ strategic conservation methods. Rest assured, we are doing everything possible to find alternative sources and maintain a steady supply of these essential fluids.
To all patients seeking care, especially those presenting with hydration needs, please be advised that additional lab work may be ordered to assess hydration status accurately. This allows our medical team to deliver precise and carefully managed hydration treatment according to each individual’s lab results and medical needs.
We understand that this situation is challenging and may raise concerns. We want our community to know that this is a nationwide issue, not unique to McCurtain Memorial Hospital, and we are working tirelessly to navigate this shortage responsibly. We will continue to provide updates as the situation develops and appreciate your understanding and patience.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact our hospital administration at 580-286-7623.
